Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, according to American standards, in the class of child prodigies. As a person with Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents, and her family did this naturally. Maureen was welcomed into the sanctity of family on the 17th of August 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. Her mother, Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake in "The Shamrock Rovers," famous Irish soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed rough sports as a kid and was very good at it. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural aptitude for performing. It was evident by her getting almost every Feis awards for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. As she reached the age of 14 she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her passion for classical theatre and singing opera.
